Monday 2 May is the day Queensland celebrates May Day or Labour Day – a public holiday commemorating a significant change in worker conditions in Australia’s history. Prior to this change in the mid 19^th century, workers commonly toiled under harsh and demanding conditions where many faced inequities through race, gender and age.

Labour Day can also remind us about the One who provides for us and is worthy of our best as we work, seeking to serve Him with excellence.

We’re blessed to serve and live for Him here at Cooloola Christian College.

Knowing us well, God also designed a day of rest from our work, a day when we can be reminded of His majesty and be restored by Him.

Learning Progress Meetings will occur tomorrow from 3-7pm in Stan Baker Hall. Please ensure you arrive a few minutes before your designated timeslot to ensure the evening proceeds smoothly. If you were unable to book in an interview, please contact the teacher you would like to meet with to make alternative arrangements.

From 6pm AEST Thursday 28 April 2022, there will be no quarantine requirements for close contacts as long as they:

• do not have COVID-19 symptoms
• test negative every second day for a week from the day of becoming a close contact (day 0, 2, 4 and 6). A self-test using a RAT kit will be allowed, testing does not need to occur at a testing clinic
• wear a mask outside of home for 7 days
• do not visit any vulnerable settings (hospitals, residential aged care facilities, disability accommodation services, corrective services facilities and detention centres) for 7 days
• Notify the College that they are a close contact.

This term, our Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students will be involved in NAPLAN Online tests. Parents will find CCC’s schedule of test sessions below.

Students absent for any reason during the NAPLAN test window will have opportunity to complete tests during our ‘catch up sessions’ also indicated on the test schedule.

Parents wishing to discuss NAPLAN exemptions or exclusions should contact Sue Waltisbuhl via our Admin office before 30 April.

Special notes for all students in Year 7 and Year 9:

• To avoid unnecessary stress, students in these year levels will require fully charged devices in readiness for each NAPLAN test session (check the schedule for details).
• These devices must be available at school on Wednesday April 20 for NAPLAN readiness checking.
• Students will also require wired headphones for use during each test session (check the schedule for details). Please note - Bluetooth headphones can’t be used during NAPLAN due to the requirements of the NAP Locked Down Browser.

Admin has now moved back into our newly renovated administration building. Reception (parent enquiries) is back to operating in its original space and the student window (student enquiries) is now operating in its new space towards the end of the building (near the Prep car park).

All student sign-outs and early pick-ups will now occur directly from the student window. Parents are encouraged to park at the Prep car park and walk to the student window to pick up their students early.

The Uniform Shop is CLOSED this week due to maintenance. It will also be closed on Monday next week, as it is a public holiday. It will reopen on Wednesday 4 May, returning to its normal opening hours: Mondays 8am - 10:30am and Wednesdays 2:30pm - 4pm. Appointment bookings are no longer required.

Thank you to the many students, staff and family members who represented CCC at the ANZAC Day Dawn Service, Normanby Hill Commemorative Service and Mary Street March. We were overwhelmed by the number of members from our CCC community who came to participate in these events. Together we remembered the ANZAC spirit and gave thanks. Lest we forget.

We are advising that there have been positive COVID-19 cases confirmed in the College this week in both Primary and Secondary.

Please be assured, reflecting Queensland Health guidelines, our COVID Safe Management Plan continues to be enacted.

Under current Queensland Health guidelines there are no identified close contacts and all procedures have been followed to date.

We recommend that all children and families continue to monitor for symptoms and seek a testing facility if necessary.
