Week 5 Primary Chapel & Devotion Focus: The Helmet of Salvation - IDENTITY
Over the past week, our Chapel and Devotions have focused on The Helmet of Salvation and the theme of Identity. Through our devotions, students have been encouraged to think about what it means to know that we are loved, chosen, known and valued by God.
The helmet protects our head and reminds us to protect our thoughts and remember who we are. Our identity is not determined by what we achieve, what others think of us, or whether we feel like we fit in. When we follow Jesus, our identity is found in Him.
We explored the story of The Lost Sheep (Luke 15:1–7), reminding us that every individual matters to God. Just as the shepherd went looking for the one lost sheep, God knows each of us personally and cares deeply for us. This also challenges us to see and value others, making sure no one feels overlooked or left out.
You might like to continue the conversation with your child by asking:
- What does it mean to belong to God?
- What are some things that can make us doubt ourselves?
- How does knowing that God loves and values us change the way we think about ourselves?
- What makes you unique, and how can you use your gifts to help others?
- How can we make sure other people know that they are valued and included?
This week, encourage your family to practise speaking truth about identity. When your child is comparing themselves to others, feeling left out or doubting their abilities, remind them:
“Your worth is not measured by what you can do. You are loved, known and valued by God.”
As a family, you could read Luke 15:1–7 together and talk about what the story of the lost sheep teaches us about how God sees each of us.
Our prayer this week is that our students will grow in confidence, knowing who they are, whose they are, and that they have been created by God with purpose.
